Family Yoga
Kids Yoga Workshops
What does a workshop look like? Your children will enjoy a themed day learning and practising some yoga poses, integrating them into games, song and story, and getting crafty too with an art/craft project to tie into the yoga workshop. We will also learn a bit about anatomy and nutrition and together make a healthy fresh smoothie to nourish our bodies.
To finish, we will practice some breathing, relaxation and storytelling and I aim for your children to go home relaxed and nourished, with something to show for their creativity as well as a toolbox of yoga and relaxation techniques.
Why Yoga for Kids?
There are many choices available for parents to choose from for physical, movement based extra-curricular classes for their children.
What makes yoga different?
Yoga is a fun way for children to develop a variety of important skills in a nourishing, non competitive environment. From a young age children experience pressure to perform academically and socially. It’s all too easy for children to become too self critical and lose confidence in themselves. During this time, yoga can be a great remedy for the tension associated with daily stressors, as well as an important facilitator of healthy physical, emotional and cognitive development.
A Family Yoga session allows children (and adults!) to relax and have fun whilst developing strength, co-ordination, flexibility and balance. There is increasing evidence to support the vast benefits of yoga for children. Family yoga strives to create a balance between spontaneity and structure, in a fun, multi-sensory environment where children develop through kinesthetic, visual, and aural learning. Children are encouraged to respect and pay attention to their bodies, making sure each pose feels good, and coming in and out of positions when they are ready (something adults often find difficult!). As children grow and their bodies change, this becomes an important skill. Having the skills to listen to the body & heart is not just a method to avoid injury, but also makes it easier to be self-reflective and make good choices when dealing with peer pressure.
Parents, children, grandparents, siblings, guardians and friends of any age are all welcome to join in at family yoga; it’s a great way to bond and have fun, whilst being hugely beneficial too. Come and give it a try….. what have you got to lose?!
What are the benefits to practicing Yoga?
Practicing yoga not only improves strength & flexibility, it increases self confidence and helps to create a positive self image, increases sensory awareness and general body awareness. Yoga helps to build co-ordination and balance, and to develop self discipline, concentration and self control. Practicing regular yoga fortifies all the bodily systems; skeletal, nervous, circulatory, digestive, respiratory, hormonal and muscular systems. It increases our awareness of breathing and deepens the breath. It is non-competitive; in family or kids yoga classes we will expand awareness of nature, animals, and the environment. Yoga helps build inner and outer strength, encourages co-operation and teamwork, teaching us how to relax and de-stress, encouraging compassion, generosity and respect. Family yoga encourages time away from screens; bonding, movement and awareness. But most importantly – yoga is fun!!
What makes kids Yoga different from other movement based classes?
YogiTribe offers children fast and active play whilst warming up or playing with yoga poses as well as incorporating quiet, focused time whilst holding poses or relaxation time. As time goes on, the whole practice is done with heightened awareness to the body through stretching, strengthening, or relaxation. Children are given the opportunity to do something fun with their family and friends, not only great for their health but also for bonding and interaction. Kids yoga definitely involves a lot of games, movement and creativity! It also helps children learn how to be calm, focused, and how to use their breath. The benefits are endless.
From class to class we will discover acro yoga, yoga around the world, themes, games and of course learn all sorts of yoga poses. The children will have chances to interact and be creative in class, and confidence will grow as they enjoy and have fun.
